Collecting only 23 kills as a team, eight by Heather Kakes and seven by Hannah Griffiths, the Robins struggled from the service line and made only 75 percent of its attempts — a fatal mistake in a game settled by rally scoring.

I recommend drinking plenty of Gatorade well before the start of the first game as I attended the match-up against Wausau East tonight and it must have been 85 degrees in the Gym!

In an ironic twist of fate three of the four games were 9-11 at one point.

Although not counting in conference standings, the win was an important one as West is in Antigo’s post-season sectional and as a result, a victory could mean better things in terms of seeding.

Dropping the first game on a nail-biter, 23-25, Antigo won the next two on solid margins, 25-15, 25-16. Game four was back and forth with the teams knotting the score at least five times before a Warrior hit in the net edged Antigo ahead 21-20.

Heather Kakes was a powerhouse on the net, leading Antigo with 13 kills. She also scored seven aces and had four blocks on the night.

Chelsea Filbrandt, at eight kills, and Suzy Solin, with seven, also added to Antigo’s strong net play.

Combined, the Robins scored an impressive 44 kills against West’s defense — six by Hannah Griffiths, five By Grosskurth, three by Lacey Kuivinen and one each by Kim Lindner and Matucheski.

Molly Young accumulated 20 assists at setter while Solin, Kuivinen, Filbrandt, Young and Matucheski all finished in double digits on digs.

Amanda Fischer had nine kills for Wausau. Carissa Whalen added seven kills and six blocks in the loss.

Briah Fischer supplied 23 assists, while Nicole Sweeney had 27 digs for West.

The start of the Antigo season got underway this evening and I  give them credit for sticking together during a difficult transition. The team lost to Tomahawk three games to nil.
